Bayer Leverkusen want to face Arsenal rather than Bayern Munich in the Champions League for two key reasons

Bayer Leverkusen managing director for sport, Simon Rolfes, and manager, Kasper Hjulmand, would much rather their side face Arsenal than Bayern Munich.

After beating Olympiacos 2-0 last week, yesterday evening, the German club drew 0-0 with the Greek giants to secure a spot in the last 16 of the Champions League.

On Friday, ‘Die Werkself’ will discover the identity of its opponents when the draw for the next round of the competition is conducted.

Simon Rolfes wants Bayer Leverkusen to play Arsenal so they can have a reunion with Kai Havertz

In an interview with Bild, Simon Rolfes confessed that he’d love Bayer Leverkusen to clash with Arsenal, so that his club can give their former player the send-off he deserves.

The ex-midfielder said: “It would be nice if we drew Arsenal.

“Then we could finally bid farewell to Kai Havertz at our stadium – almost six years after his departure. I’ve been in contact with Kai recently. He would also enjoy a reunion. He was keeping his fingers crossed for us to progress.”

Kasper Hjulmand reveals why he wants Bayer Leverkusen to play Arsenal

Manager, Kasper Hjulmand will already have to prepare tactics to play against Bayern Munich twice in the next month, with his team taking on the Bundesliga champions in both the league and the DFB-Pokal. Therefore, he thinks it would be nice to draw Arsenal in Europe.

As per Buli News, he said: “These are two of the best teams in Europe; they play at the same level. That’s fantastic. We want to play against the best. We’re looking forward to this big challenge. Four games in one month against Bayern? With Arsenal, there would maybe be a bit of variety.”
