Club Brugge goalkeeper Simon Mignolet caused a stir last night by suggesting his side’s game against Paris Saint-Germain didn’t prove to be all that difficult.
The 33-year-old is best known for his time with Premier League giants Liverpool but ever since 2019, he’s been the number one for Brugge back in his homeland of Belgium.
In addition to winning the Belgian top tier title twice we’ve also seen Mignolet really rubber-stamp his position as the main man for the club across both domestic and European competitions. Thus, it only makes sense for us to all take what he says seriously – which makes these remarks even tastier.
Mignolet chose violence
Last night Club Brugge went head to head with a Paris Saint-Germain team that featured Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and Lionel Messi starting together as a front three for the very first time. Despite that, Brugge didn’t seem all too phased by the weight of what they were facing and instead managed to grind out an impressive 1-1 draw.
After the match, Mignolet threw some indirect shade into the mix by suggesting that PSG didn’t really bring a whole lot to the table.
?? "Je n'ai pas eu tellement de boulot à faire. Je n'ai eu que deux-deux trois arrêts à faire, pas très difficiles. On a défendu en groupe pour ne pas leur laisser trop d'espaces."

“I didn’t have a lot of work to do. I only had two or two, three stops to make, not very difficult. We defended as a group so as not to leave them too much space.”
It’s easy to digest this as an attempt to rile up the PSG faithful but in reality, it’s nice to see a player have this kind of confidence. He believes in what his side is attempting to achieve and now that they’ve proven they can withstand the fire power of Paris Saint-Germain, they’ll back themselves to kick on and cause problems for both Manchester City and RB Leipzig in the group stage.
