Movsar Evolev has defeated Lerone Murphy in the UFC London main event. And the fans aren’t happy.
The pair of featherweight titans battled it out at the O2 Arena, knowing a shot at featherweight world champion, Alexander Volkanovski, was likely on the line.
Fans slam UFC London decision
After entering the octagon to a cacophony of cheers from the partisan crowd, Lerone Murphy hit the ground running, showcasing his tremendous striking skills, forcing Movsar Evloev to adopt new tactics.
After landing a low blow and losing a point, the Russian knew he needed to up the gears, which he did, utilizing his formidable grappling skills to close the fight out strong.
At the end of the contest, many fans felt that despite Evloev’s strong finish, Murphy had done enough to earn at least a draw if not a win.
Therefore, when the away fighter received the verdict via majority decision, MMA enthusiasts headed to social media to voice their discontent.
One said: “That’s an absolute robbery,” while another added: “Murphy clearly won. There’s no other possible scorecard.” A third exclaimed: “That’s a crazy decision.”
Offering his verdict, esteemed MMA broadcaster, Adam Catterall, posted: “How did Movsar win four of those five rounds with two judges? No chance. The worst-case scenario for Murphy in that fight is 47-47, given Movsar lost a point in round four, which would be scored 9-9.
“Round one and two: Murphy. Round three: very close. Round four and five: Movsar, but with a point taken.”
He later added: “Just watched round one back, which is the round the judges disagree on. In real time, I gave it to Murphy; therefore, my card was 47-47.
“Watching round one back, I understand how two judges have gone with Movsar, but I still disagree.
“Elite fight. Both men, superb.”
