Cristiano Ronaldo corrects reports claiming he said ‘he wasn’t finished’ at Man United

Man United talisman Cristiano Ronaldo has denied reports claiming that he said ‘he wasn’t finished’ at the Old Trafford club.

Last night’s 3-0 win over Brentford saw Juan Mata, Nemanja Matic, and Edinson Cavani all make their last home appearances for United. Ronaldo obviously got himself on the scoresheet, along with Bruno Fernandes and a rare Raphael Varane goal. However, he has worried supporters that his penalty may be his last Old Trafford strike.

The Portugal captain has enjoyed a rich run of form in recent weeks. Following a slow start to 2022, Ronaldo has bagged nine goals in his last six league appearances – including two hat tricks.

Despite this, his tally of 18 goals and three assists is down on his typical output. This, coupled with Man United’s disappointing season in the hunt for silverware, means his Old Trafford return has not been too successful. But it seemed that Ronaldo was not yet ready to give up in Manchester just yet.

The mysterious soundbite

During a lap of honour following United’s win, Sky Sport’s cameraman closely followed Ronaldo. After smiling and waving to the crowd, the Portuguese attacker looked down at the camera.

He said a short phrase that the mic did not quite pick up. Many fans and media believed that Cristiano Ronaldo said ‘I’m not finished’ – signaling his intention to stay at Old Trafford for next season.

Ronaldo has good reason to stay. The club have recently appointed Erik ten Hag. He’s an exciting coach who is looking to make wholesale changes to restore Man United to the top. In Cristiano Ronaldo, he would have an all-time great to help him as a veteran presence.

In addition, the Portuguese marksman’s contract runs until the end of next season, which United can extend for another year. Sadly, Ronaldo has since responded to reports on what he said to the camera, fueling speculation of a transfer.

Cristiano Ronaldo corrects ‘not finished’ comments

A Ronaldo Instagram fan page claimed that Man United’s No.7 said ‘he’s not finished’. They weren’t alone; renowned newspaper The Telegraph also wrote an article about the alleged comment.

Ronaldo saw @Ronaldo7club’s Instagram post and put a comment to correct their caption. The Man United striker very bluntly put: “I didn’t say that.”

Some fans have applauded Ronaldo’s honesty. Meanwhile, others suggest that he corrected the media so as to not look like a liar should he leave.

Portugal’s all-time leading scorer could make a shock return to Real Madrid. According to The Mirror, members of Madrid’s hierarchy would like to bring Ronaldo back to the club where he won four Champions League titles.

Alternatively, Bayern Munich have reportedly considered a move for the 37-year-old. However, Bayern president Herbert Hainer played down these rumours. He suggested that Ronaldo would be “too old” (quote from AS) for the German champions.
