Kylian Mbappe will leave Paris Saint-Germain next summer for free and be replaced by none other than Cristiano Ronaldo, according to reports in Spain.
Spanish news outlet AS report that despite the arrival of Lionel Messi on Tuesday, Mbappe still wants to leave the French giants.
The 21-year-old is out of contract at Parc des Princes in 2022, and is yet to agree fresh terms.
When asked about Mbappe’s future at Messi’s official unveiling, PSG president Nasser al-Khelaifi stated: “I think we have the most competitive team. Now there is no choice for Kylian but to stay here in Paris.
“I think everybody knows the future of Kylian, people from Paris and the players.
“He is a really competitive player. He wants to win, he wants to win trophies, he said it in public.”
The PSG chief added: “He wanted a competitive team and I think we have got the most competitive in the world. So there is no excuse for him now.
“He can’t do anything else but stay.”
But AS report that it is their understanding that despite this public stance, the reality of the situation is different.
They add that al-Khelaifi has in fact decided not to sell Mbappe this summer, but will instead allow him to run his contract down.
His replacement is reported as being Juventus forward Ronaldo – meaning we could finally see the two greatest players of the century play in the same team.
Like Mbappe, the Portuguese icon is out of contract next summer. He signed for Juve in 2018 on an initial four-year deal.
If Ronaldo does move to PSG, we could see the mouth-watering prospect of Ronaldo, Messi and Neymar playing in the same team. That’s a front three for the ages.
