With Cristiano Ronaldo retiring from the international game, and the end of his club career likely just around the corner, the Portuguese sensation is looking ahead to the next chapter. With incredible creativity on the pitch, the player is set to showcase his abilities on-screen by not just executive producing, but starring in a new football drama.

The programme, called Day 1s, which will also feature Thierry Henry and rap sensation Dave, will centre around a fictional agent, named Stanley Dalton, played by Homeland star Damian Lewis. Filming is already underway at Barnet FC’s The Hive Stadium.

The new show has emerged from a concept by Henry’s real-life agent, Darren Dein.

According to the Sun, a TV insider claimed: “It’s likely to spark a bidding war between the streamers.

“The sheer calibre of figures behind it, not to mention the cast, means it’s a prestige project — albeit a surprising one for Ronaldo as he crosses into making dramas.

“After the World Cup, there’s a renewed international interest, particularly in the States, in British football. It’s one that’s been growing for some time with shows like Ted Lasso.

“But this isn’t a sitcom. It’s definitely a drama, with some comedic elements, and has some serious names backing it.”

Ronaldo runs UR•Marv Studios, alongside top director Matthew Vaughn, who was behind hits like Kingsman.

Earlier this year, the film aficionado said: “Cristiano has created stories on the pitch that I could never have written, and I look forward to creating inspiring movies with him.”

Ronaldo added: “This is an exciting chapter for me, as I look ahead to new ventures.”
