Diego Maradona’s top five greatest goals

Diego Maradona has scored some truly amazing goals.

Blessed with incredible skills and an awe-inspiring footballing IQ, the Argentine cemented his status as one of the greatest players of all time.

During his career, the legend won the World Cup, two Serie A titles and a UEFA Cup, and hit the back of the net on many an occasion, with five goals standing out from the pack.

5) Napoli v Juventus, November 3, 1985, Serie A

When unleashed on the pitch, Diego Maradona was almost unstoppable. And, he was particularly lethal from set pieces.

In a moment that Napoli fans will never forget, the sporting great helped the Italian side win their first Serie A title in 12 years.

The indirect free kick rolled perfectly into his path, allowing him to lift it into the back of the net, rendering Stefano Tacconi helpless.

4) Argentina vs Greece, 1994 World Cup group game

Maradona performed brilliantly in his Argentina shirt right to the end of his international career.

In his last ever game for his country, the icon played his part in an epic goal. The superstar’s team beautifully passed the ball around before Maradona blasted it into the back of the net.

3) Argentina v Belgium, 1986 World Cup semi-final

Four men stood between Maradona and the Belgian net, which for most would be too many to score a goal, but not for ‘El Pibe de Oro’.

He beautifully slalomed between the first two, glided around a third, took out the fourth. and then put the ball past Jean-Marie Pfaff.

2) Napoli vs Lazio, 1984, Serie A

Maradona had truly tremendous footballing instincts. When the ball fell to his feet in a game against Lazio from 25 yards out, he didn’t even bother to look at the net.

He smashed the ball with his left foot, sending it soaring past Orsi, leaving the fans at a sold-out Stadio San Paolo, speechless.

Of course, there was only one finish that could top the list — ‘The Goal of the Century’.

After rendering England fans furious with ‘The Hand of God’. Maradona jumped at the opportunity to rub salt into the wounds.

Like an artist at work, he picked up the ball in his own half, before driving past four opposition players and calmy rounding Peter Shilton.

Even English fans were blown away by what they’d just witnessed.
