Borussia Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl has claimed that the Bundesliga giants have not yet received any offers for star player, Jude Bellingham.
The 19-year-old is one of the premier transfer targets who is seemingly available. Bellingham has developed into a top box-to-box midfielder during his stint at Dortmund, prompting interest from Europe’s biggest spenders.
The England international then only increased his market value with a stellar showing at the recent World Cup in Qatar. As a result, many in the football world expect a transfer saga that will see Bellingham move for hundreds of millions.
However, the interest from the likes of Real Madrid and Liverpool has yet to generate concrete offers for Jude Bellingham. In an interview with the German paper, Kicker, Dortmund director Sebastian Kehl spoke on the current situation.
Firstly, Kehl said that his club can nurture talents and sell them for profit “again and again”. This business model has served the Bundesliga side well from a financial perspective. But it does mean that they could lose their biggest talent – Jude Bellingham – in the same manner.
“I can’t say today if and when that will be the case with Jude,” said Kehl. “And from a purely sporting point of view, I would be stupid to want to give up Jude Bellingham. We’ll talk to him and his parents in due course.
“There is currently no pressure,” he added. “Jude Bellingham wants to concentrate fully on football; and by the way, there are no offers at all.”
For fans of BVB, this may be a relief to hear that Bellingham could stay put. Since moving to Signal Iduna Park in 2020, the midfielder has flourished.
Dortmund’s midfield star running the Bundesliga
During his interview with Kicker, Dortmund’s director could not help but talk up their prized player.
“Jude has made an incredible development here,” said Kehl. “With the way he plays football, his fighting spirit and his commitment, he has become a real Borussia player who identifies with BVB.”
Bellingham is certainly demonstrating his quality every time he pulls on the famous yellow shirt. Prior to the Bundesliga winter break, he had registered five goal contributions from 15 matches – an impressive tally considering his position as a centre midfielder.
Also, in the Champions League, Bellingham’s four goals and one assist led Dortmund to the knockout stages of this year’s competition. The Bundesliga club may fancy their chances in the round of 16, too. They face a Chelsea side on a downward slide.
But the Englishman’s future at the club is still up in the air, despite Kehl’s assertions. With Dortmund operating on a loss in the last few years, they may still need to cash in on their best player. With this in mind, which teams are closest to making a move?
No offers yet – but which sides are chasing Jude Bellingham?
Two sides appear most often in the rumour mill surrounding Jude Bellingham. Firstly, Liverpool are desperate to add the midfielder to their ranks. Last month, The Express reported that the Reds are in advanced talks with Bellingham. These have not materialised into a solid offer yet, though.
Liverpool are also the preferred destination of Jude’s father, Mark. The club have allegedly offered him a scout role if Jude moves to Merseyside, plus will look into buying his brother, Jobe, from Birmingham.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid remain confident that they can lure the young star to the Bernabeu. Per Daily Mail, Los Blancos hope to get a deal done with the Bundesliga side, believing that £90 million will be enough.
This is more likely to open a bidding war, though, as other teams would definitely offer more. With the likes of Man City and PSG also circulating for Bellingham, Real may need to use all of their financial might to get him.
