Eagle-eyed AEW fans notice Cody Rhodes appearance in Fight Forever video game

AEW fans who paid close attention to the Fight Forever video game trailer managed to spot a surprise appearance from Cody Rhodes.

A trailer featuring gameplay has recently spread on social media, featuring a fight between Britt Baker and Adam Cole. Interestingly, in the promotional video, Baker is playing as herself in the game, which is currently still in development. Also included were clips of various mini-games.

Coming from renowned video game producer THQ and wrestling game specialists Yukes, AEW: Fight Forever promises an arcade-style experience for fans of the federation to enjoy.

But what sort of features can players look forward to? The THQ website provides a whole host of info about their upcoming new release.

AEW’s first video game details

Like many video games of the genre, Fight Forever will give players plenty of options when it comes to different modes.

For instance, “career mode” is sure to make a popular choice. Here, fans can create and develop their own character who rises through the AEW ranks. Additionally, gamers will have free rein of creativity for their character, able to customize costumes, appearance, entrances, and moves.

Elsewhere, you will be able to play with your friends and take on the roster via online co-op mode. Here, you and a gaming buddy can fight in tag team matches, combining teammate move sequences to come out on top.

THQ also boasts that the new game will contain “more match types than you can count”. These include single, tag team, three and four-way, ladder matches, and exploding barbed-wire death, to name a few. As a result, players are truly spoilt for choice with the types of battles they want to re-create virtually.

The roster

According to Real Sport 101, the playable roster for AEW’s first video game is up for debate. Many expect that the entire roster of the company should be available alongside some past legends.

However, the game’s cover image is one giveaway that confirms the presence of at least some stars. This features CM Punk at its centre, whilst also having Kenny Omega, Britt Baker, Jon Moxley, Jade Cargill, and Chris Jericho. Therefore, these wrestlers must surely be in the game.

In addition, the late Owen Hart will also feature as one of 50 playable wrestlers, per Smackdown Hotel. Should he become a character on Fight Forever, this will be Hart’s first video game appearance since 2004.

Finally, many fans may be surprised that Cody Rhodes is set to be in AEW: Fight Forever. Wrestle Zone reports that Kenny Omega confirmed this in an interview with Sports Illustrated.  Omega stated that he was “very passionate about making sure his [Rhodes’] legacy and position within the company were preserved”.

And eagle-eyed fans can vouch for Omega’s promise after spotting the American Nightmare in a gameplay trailer.

Cody Rhodes spotted in Fight Forever trailer

Viewers of the gameplay caught a glimpse of Cody Rhodes via an advertising billboard in the game. A screengrab, that THQ also posted to their official site, just about shows the American Nightmare. He is visible on an advertising board, at the top of a stadium in a mini-game mode.

Despite this not being the game’s final build, the AEW faithful believe that this all but confirms the WWE star’s presence on the upcoming release. However, whether Cody Rhodes is a playable character in Fight Forever or not remains to be seen.

Digital Spy expects AEW’s video game debut to release on New Year’s Eve, coming to several consoles. PlayStation, Nintendo, Xbox, and PC gamers should all be able to play Fight Forever by the end of the year.
