During his playing career, Coleman won the hearts of the people with his sublime performances on the field, and since retiring from the game, he’s remained a popular figure, regularly amusing his Instagram followers with a segment he likes to call ‘Whiskey Stories’. And unsurprisingly, the powerhouse intends to enjoy a glass or two at the Watch Party.

In an exclusive interview with Sporf, he chuckled: “Oh yeah. You know I’m going to have a couple of whiskeys. In the UK, you’ve got to. As they say, ‘When in Rome, you have to do as they do’. So I’m gonna have a good time and enjoy Manchester. I’m going to enjoy the history, the people and the energy. It’s going to be exciting.”

But while Coleman is looking forward to the evening, when the game kicks off at 8 PM, he’ll set his whiskey to one side and focus on a contest that looks guaranteed to provide fireworks.

Erik Coleman is buzzing for The New York Jets vs The Miami Dolphins

In a sport as intense as American Football, fixtures always boil over into furious encounters, with the players putting their all into every tackle. But in a grudge match of the ilk of The New York Jets vs The Miami Dolphins, fans can expect an even more intense affair than usual.

Coleman explained: “It’s going to be a great night. You have the high-powered offence from the Miami Dolphins, playing against the wonderful defence from the New York Jets, one of the best defences in the NFL. It’s going to be exciting. It’s going to be high-scoring, a tough match-up. These are two teams that have a lot of hatred for one another. They’re division rivals Miami, New York. Some say that Miami is the sixth Borough of New York. So there’s a lot of New Yorkers that are down there, and it’s going to be a great matchup for sure. Sauce Gardner vs Tyreek Hill the matchups, they just don’t stop.”

Erik Coleman’s daughter is playing in the Super Bowl

The 41-year-old is overjoyed that the game he adores is growing around the world and giving girls, including his daughter, an opportunity to get involved.

He beamed: “I was over in the UK for the Girls Flag Football Championships earlier in the year. The excitement that the girls had for the game was great. They had a lot of skills. To see how they have grown from a six or eight-week programme is amazing. From the beginning to the end, they were leaps and bounds ahead of where they started.”

He continued: “My daughters play the game of flag football. I have two girls. My oldest is playing in the Super Bowl over here next weekend. So, I’m excited about that. It’s a game that I played since I was in second or third grade. I played flag football all the way up to middle school, and then I transitioned to tackle. But it’s a game that you can play at all ages. You can play as a kid. You can play as an adult. People do it for Thanksgiving, the Turkey Bowl games. So, it’s a great way to learn the game and continue to be involved in it when you don’t want to have the physical contact.”

Doors open for the watch party at 6:30 PM, with kick-off scheduled for 8 PM.
