Fans can’t believe Pedri is still playing games after being selected for Barcelona match

Football fans around the world still can’t quite believe Pedri is able to perform at the elite level after the year he’s had.

The teenage sensation has been on one hell of a journey for club and country in the last twelve months and, as a result, has become something of a cult hero for supporters all across the globe. At the age of just 18 he’s producing consistently strong performances and he’s doing so on the kind of frequent basis that makes our legs hurt just by hearing the stats.

Part man, part machine

Pedri was a stalwart in the middle of the park for Barcelona last season and he carried that form over to Euro 2020 and the Summer Olympics with Spain. Many expected him to be rested for Barca’s start to the La Liga campaign but instead, he’s been thrown straight back into the lion’s den after playing all 90 minutes of his side’s opening day win over Real Sociedad.

At this point, we’re pretty sure he’s not human, and there are many out there who share that sentiment.

It’s not uncommon to see young players have an insane gas tank but that only tells part of the story here.

It’s a near miracle that Pedri hasn’t picked up an extended injury or allowed his form to drop, especially when you consider the kind of elite-level he’s playing at.

The Nou Camp itself is in desperate need of a new hero in the wake of Lionel Messi’s departure to Paris Saint-Germain this summer. While it’s no guarantee that Pedri can spend the next two decades leading the way for the Spanish giants, he has the kind of mentality that would lead anyone to believe he can be a superstar long into the future.

His focus will now shift towards this Saturday night when Barca aim to build on their win over Sociedad with another against Athletic Bilbao.
