Hands up – who expected to see footage of penguins waddling around Real Madrid‘s iconic Santiago Bernabeu on a Thursday evening?
In a clip that precisely no-one would have put their hands up in expectation of, two of the flightless birds have been spotted inside the ground.
Nobody seems sure exactly how this has happened, but it makes for interesting viewing. See the short clip below:
Penguins almost exclusively live below the Equator, barring one species which can be found in the northern hemisphere.
And veteran Pro Evolution Soccer fans recalled this bizarre but hilarious feature from PES6, where players could play as penguins and dinosaurs in-game:
Renovation work ongoing at Santiago Bernabeu
Real are currently completing renovation work on the Bernabeu Stadium.
In the meantime, the club have temporarily relocated to the Alfredo di Stefano Stadium. That is the stadium in which the club’s Castilla team play their games.
The renovated Bernabeu is set to become a state-of-the-art arena that combines football with leisure, entertainment and restaurants.
There will also be improvements to the club’s museum. The stadium will feature a permanent and retractable roof.
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez told the club’s website: “The new stadium will continue to be the setting that generates the emtoions which will leave their mark on Real Madrid’s future.
“It’ll be the best stadium in the world in which to see us once again recognised at the end of the century as the best club of the 21st century.”
