EA’s annual ‘FUT Birthday’ promo looks set to land on FIFA 21 in the coming days.
Players were last night greeted with a loading screen upon entering Ultimate Team which teased a new promo to be released on Friday March 26 at 6pm GMT.
The FUT Birthday promo has been released yearly in March ever since FIFA 14.
On FIFA 19, EA released position change cards throughout the promo.
Manchester United‘s Romelu Lukaku was given a centre-back card, whilst Sergio Ramos was switched to a striker.
Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, meanwhile, was given a position change to left-back.
Each change was related to a position that each player had played in at some point during their careers. In Salah’s case, he featured as a full-back for the youth team of ENPPI in Egypt.
Last year, the focus was switched to giving cards weak foot and skill move upgrades.
Upgrades were given to popular players such as Moussa Sissoko, Virgil van Dijk and Allan Saint-Maximin.
The likes of Mesut Ozil and Steven Berwijn were included as rewards for completing specific Squad Building Challenges.
And who can forget the Nick Pope SBC card – the first goalkeeper in the game to be assigned with five star skill moves?
What are we likely to see this year?
Given that EA have released several promos based around position changes on FIFA 21 – with FUT Freeze being the most notable – we’re likely to see them go down another angle for FUT Birthday.
That would therefore leave the weak foot/skill move upgrade option open again.
Alternatively, it could also be based around players that have performed strongly for their club this campaign.
The door could be open for the likes of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo or Neymar being awarded upgrades, given that none of the trio have featured in a non-Team of the Week promo since Team of the Year in January.
