FIFA 22 players have been surprised to see the presence of Lewis Hamilton and Anthony Joshua in the game, with both featuring in the Volta mode.
The newest instalment of the FIFA franchise begins with a short Volta story, set in the centre of Paris.
Your avatar must go through Paris and pick up some tickets for the fictional Champions League semi-final between Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea.
At some point during the story, your character meets both world heavyweight champion Joshua and seven-time Formula 1 world champion Hamilton, who both happen to be at the game.
Neither Joshua or Hamilton have any spoken lines in the story, and the scene ends in a matter of seconds.
Both men were playable in FIFA 21, alongside a host of other top names unlockable via Volta mode.
They included NFL stars Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes, popular musicians such as Dua Lipa, and Formula 1 driver Daniel Ricciardo.
The characters were known as Groundbreakers, and were generally released into Volta mode in one-week intervals.
In the real sporting world, both Joshua and Hamilton are gearing up for big weekends in their respective sports.
Joshua defends his heavyweight titles against Oleksandr Usyk at Wembley Stadium on Saturday. It will be the first time the Watford-born boxer has fought in front of a full crowd in the UK since 2018, when he defeated Alexander Povetkin.
Hamilton, meanwhile, is participating in the Russian Grand Prix in Sochi this weekend. The Mercedes driver goes into the race in second place in the World Drivers’ Championship, five points behind Red Bull’s Max Verstappen with eight races to go.
