Fans are also eager to see who they will end the season against- and whether they will be at home or away.

The Premier League released the provisional fixtures for the 2022/23 season at 9am BST this morning, and, unsurprisingly, there was much excitement. Supporters were as keen as ever to get a first look at their key dates for next term.

We selected five of the standout fixtures from this year’s schedule, and on which date they will be played…

In only the third week of the new season, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool travel to Erik ten Hag’s Man United.

For United supporters, this will be the first time they see their new manager tested against one of the top six. They have to contend with fixtures against Brighton and Brentford before the clash with Liverpool at Old Trafford.

It will undoubtedly be a good gauge for how much progress United have made under Ten Hag since his arrival at the end of last season.

Saturday, October 1 – Arsenal v Tottenham Hotspur

The North London Derby is always full of drama, and Arsenal and Tottenham supporters only have to wait a month into the new season before they see their sides lock horns again.

Arsenal lost the last North London Derby, which was held at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. This one is at the Emirates.

It will be good to see if either side has kicked on from their fourth-place (Spurs) and fifth-place (Arsenal) finishes last term.

Saturday, October 15 – Liverpool v Man City

Last season’s title race went to the final day, and this fixture is an opportunity for either side to lay down a marker in the 2022/23 season.

Klopp’s side host Pep Guardiola’s side on Saturday, October 15, and neutrals will be intrigued to see a new rivalry in the form of Erling Haaland and Darwin Nunez.

Saturday, January 14 – Man United v Man City

Soon after the New Year, Man United host Man City in the Manchester Derby. Another progress test for Ten Hag, and an opportunity to see any potential January signings in action.

Manchester derbies are always hostile, but there’s something different when they’re played at Old Trafford rather than the Etihad Stadium. This is one to keep an eye on.

Saturday, February 11 – Leeds v Man United

This fixture was arguably the most hostile last season. The atmosphere at Elland Road was tribal, and the hatred was real.

It will be intriguing to see how Jesse Marsch’s first full season goes at Leeds. Regardless of league positions at the time, this fixture will always be one to look forward to.

Honourable mentions

Saturday, August 6 – Newcastle v Nottingham Forest

Supporters will be eager to see how newly-promoted Forest fare on the opening day against Newcastle, who could have made a raft of new signings by then. Eddie Howe’s Magpies finished last season very strongly indeed.

Saturday, August 13 – Chelsea v Spurs

This rivalry is always one to watch out for. It also has the added spark that Chelsea have been newly taken over, and Antonio Conte will be coming off the back of a full pre-season with Spurs.

Saturday, September 3 – Everton v Liverpool

Another hostile derby – especially at Goodison Park. This is the standout fixture from a weekend that also sees Man United host Arsenal – another classic fixture.
