Paulie Malignaggi says Adrien Broner is a better trash-talker than Floyd Mayweather

Paulie Malignaggi and Adrien Broner went to war long before they ever set foot in the ring with one another, with the pair verbally annihilating each other at every opportunity ahead of their fight in 2013.

While ‘The Problem’ ultimately emerged from their contest as the victor, ‘The Magic Man’ still had a fantastic time trading verbal jabs with his rival, claiming the four-weight world champion is a better trash-talker than Floyd Mayweather.

In an exclusive interview with Sporf, he claimed: “The most fun I had with trash-talking during a press conference was Adrien Broner. That was a highlight because Broner was a good trash-talker, and I was a good trash-talker. I think some trash-talkers are overrated. I think in order to be a good trash-talker, you have to be witty, and Broner and I were pretty witty. For example, people look at Floyd Mayweather as a good trash-talker, but I don’t find him to be that witty; it’s just him talking. I think when he was in those press conferences with Conor McGregor, you could see that he didn’t have the quick answers that you would need in a witty situation.

“So, being a good trash-talker is knowing how to think on the fly rather than rehearsing what you’re going to say. You need to give rebuttals when your opponent also knows how to trash-talk. Some people thought the Broner press conferences were a bit extreme, but I thought they were very challenging.”
