Jordan Pickford’s return from Euro 2020 was marked with a homecoming party – and the England goalkeeper certainly looked like he was enjoying himself.
Pickford recorded more clean sheets (five) than any other goalkeeper at the tournament, and saved two penalties in the final penalty shootout against Italy.
England would be on the wrong end of the shootout, but Pickford’s heroics will not be forgotten quickly.
Three Lions players returned home shortly after the final, and the 27-year-old was welcomed back with a party held by family and friends.
Pickford was serenaded into the room with a chorus of Sweet Caroline by the guests in attendance, several of whom were wearing masks with his face on.
Further footage shows a shirtless Pickford being carried around on a friend’s shoulders, with Cher’s hit single ‘Believe’ being played at full volume in the background.
He then points towards wife Megan Davison, who is also wearing a Pickford mask and joining in on the singing.
Pickford comments on Euro 2020
Posting on Instagram following the final defeat, he wrote: “I’m absolutely gutted that we couldn’t get over the line on Sunday night.
“We as a team did everything we could to bring it home but unfortunately that’s football. It just wasn’t meant to be for us this time.
“It’s been a pleasure to be in this camp with the lads over the last seven weeks.
“We can’t thank you enough for all the support we’ve received – and although we fell short, we made memories that will last a lifetime.
“We will come back and do everything we can to make you all proud again.”
