Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing RB Leipzig star Amadou Haidara.
According to the Daily Mail, The Red Devils are expected to keep a close eye on the Malian’s next two matches. The same report adds that Haidara has openly stated that he would like to sign for United.
If the midfielder performs to a high standard, the new United interim manager, Ralf Rangnick, may sign him. The German is an admirer of the 23-year-old, who he signed for Red Bull Salzburg in 2018.
Haidara made his 100th appearance for RB Leipzig on Sunday. However, that hasn’t stopped him from expressing his ambition to play at the Theatre of Dreams.
The experienced international reportedly has a £33million release clause in his contract, which United may well be willing to meet.
The Red Devils need a new player to bolster their midfield. Fred and Nemanja Matic haven’t hugely impressed this season, and Paul Pogba looks likely to leave at the end of the campaign.
How would Amadou Haidara stack up at United?
The Malian has been in good form for his German club so far this year. Haidara has outperformed Fred, Nemanja Matic and Scott McTominay throughout the start of this season’s matches in several statistics.
None of the United trio have scored a goal in the Premier League, whilst the 23-year-old has bagged two in the Bundesliga.
In addition, according to WhoScored, only the Scot can compete with the Malian in successful dribbles, with the pair averaging 1.1 per game. He also controls the ball beautifully at feet, averaging just 0.9 bad touches per match.
However, the midfielder tends to get dispossessed once each game, potentially putting the United centre-backs in trouble. However, this isn’t a surprise when you consider his forward-thinking mentality.
The youngster has bags of talent and seemingly believes that the Premier League is a great place to showcase that.
What is the latest on Rangnick?
The German has already been appointed as United interim boss, but he is unlikely to make it to Old Trafford in time for his side’s crucial fixture with Arsenal due to visa delays.
When Rangnick officially takes over as captain of the United ship, he will look to implement his gegenpressing style. This forward pressure approach has been highly successful for the 63-year-old in the Bundesliga. It is ultimately the reason that he achieved so much in his native country.
During his time at Hoffenheim, he took the club from the third division to the Bundesliga in two and a half years. He then went even further at RB Leipzig by taking them from the fourth division to the Champions League.
The Red Devils made a massive splash in this year’s transfer market. They signed a world-class centre back in Raphael Varane, a future superstar in Jadon Sancho and, of course, the legend that is Cristiano Ronaldo. However, there is still a missing piece to the Old Trafford jigsaw.
That particular part of the puzzle can only be solved by bringing in a new central midfielder.
With his incredible talent and will to win, Amadou Haidara could be the man to turn the tide at Manchester United.
