Shauna Bannon was pregnant while fighting Dakota Ditcheva

Shauna Bannon had no idea she was pregnant the night she went head-to-head with Dakota Ditcheva at UKFC 13, back in 2020.

While the Dubliner lost the contest via unanimous decision, she managed to go the distance with a devastating striker, despite the astonishing mitigating circumstances.

In an exclusive interview with Sporf, she said: “Fighting pregnant — that’s kind of crazy, isn’t it? I was like six weeks pregnant, fighting Dakota [Ditcheva]. That was a big shock to me as a human being. I only found out ten days after the fight. Then, I rang the hospital because you have to register to say you’re pregnant. I was like, ‘I just have one little thing that might be important, I actually just had a fight’. They were like, ‘Ok, come in and we’ll give you a scan’.

“So, that was a crazy story. My son has done a five-round MMA fight in my belly, but there are a lot of stories. I think I’ll write a book when I finish fighting.”

Shauna Bannon predicts a war at UFC Paris

On Saturday night, Bannon returns to action in a showdown with Sam Hughes at UFC Paris.

And the 31-year-old is adamant that her fans are in for a real treat.

Bannon enthused: “I think Sam is a generic American fighter. She comes forward, throws a lot of overhands, she has wrestling going on, she’s tough, has good cardio, and has a great chin — she’s been hit with heavy shots, and keeps going forward. So, she’s a good opponent.

“It’s going to be a gritty fight, but I’m prepared for that. I’ve literally been through the trenches over the past few weeks with the camp that I’ve done. So, I’m prepared for a war if it needs to be a war. I’m really excited for it and to bite down on my gumshield. I think it’s going to be my best performance to date.”
