‘I’ll put Floyd Mayweather to sleep’… Victor Ortiz calls for mega rematch with ‘Money’ in new sport

EXCLUSIVE: Victor Ortiz is ready to run it back with Floyd Mayweather, but not in traditional boxing.

Back in 2011, ‘Vicious’ went to war with ‘Money’ in a thrilling fight. After initially struggling to get to grips with the legend, Ortiz began to find success, landing big shots on the defensive mastermind. However, in a moment of madness, he headbutted Mayweather, and after attempting to apologise to the icon, he ate a massive shot that ended the contest. Therefore, with fans left wondering to this day what would’ve happened had that incident not occurred, the warrior would love another shot against the all-time great.

Victor Ortiz wants to fight Floyd Mayweather in BKB

Throughout his career, Victor Ortiz has forged a reputation for his ferocious style, making him the perfect candidate to successfully transition to bare-knuckle boxing.

Without the gloves, the 39-year-old is bound to make an impact. With that said, he’d love to finally get his revenge over Floyd Mayweather in BKB.

When asked during an exclusive interview with Sporf, about what would’ve happened had their fight continued and how a showdown would go down in his new organisation, Ortiz enthused: “I’ll make this very easy and very simple, if the fight had continued that night, I told Floyd, and I meant it, at the press conference, ‘We’re not going to go 12 rounds, I’m going to knock you out, I’m going to do you like Julio Cesar Chavez did your uncle, Roger. When I said that, he came at me and grabbed me by the throat. I said, ‘I’m just being honest, bro, I’m going to knock you out’. They didn’t take it lightly. I meant what I said. I was going to knock him out. Now, in BKB, me vs Floyd, night night, bro. I’ll put you to sleep.”

Victor Ortiz burst into the Golden Boy offices to demand a fight with Andre Berto

While Ortiz would undoubtedly enter a second clash with Mayweather as an underdog, he certainly knows a thing or two about upsetting the apple cart. After failing to tempt Marcos Maidana into a second dance following a tremendous clash, Ortiz went above and beyond to ensure he’d get his opportunity against ‘The Beast’.

The popular fighter reminisced: “I had two jobs, working for Red Bull, and working in construction. I was going to college, and I had adopted my younger brother. It was a hard time. I went in my Red Bull van and uniform, and I showed up at Golden Boy offices. I said, ‘I want Andre Berto‘. There was a guy there who said, ‘Victor, if you take that fight, it’s going to be career suicide. I said, ‘Career suicide, are you serious’? I said, ‘I don’t care, send me the contract’.

“In that month of getting ready for the fight, nobody showed up to training camp in Ventura, California. One guy interviewed me, we still keep in contact, a good person. Other than that, nobody believed in me. I went to Connecticut, and I was 14/1 against to win the fight. A lot of people from Golden Boy didn’t show up to the fight because they went to London to watch Amir Khan. They were so secure that I wasn’t going to win; that they didn’t bring an extra belt. Usually, a belt has to be brought in case the champion loses. I ended up being victorious after a war with a brutal warrior, who was on the pound-for-pound list after Floyd Mayweather. I dethroned him, and I called out Floyd next.”
