After returning to Manchester United, Jadon Sancho, pleaded to work under the tutelage of South African icon, Benni McCarthy.
Being left out of Gareth Southgate’s England squad, damaged the youngster, who confessed to struggling ‘mentally and physically. Thus his new boss made the call to send him out to the Netherlands for a specialist programme, where he trained individually with North Brabant amateur club, OJC Rosmalen.
On February 1, Sancho made his official comeback against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg. He’s since proved his worth, coming off the bench to score goals against Leeds United and Leicester City.
And according to The Daily Mail, he made it his mission to soak up McCarthy’s words of wisdom. With the Blackburn legend working wonders with Marcus Rashford, Sancho believed he to could utilise the coach’s training methods.
Following an appalling campaign by his own high standards, Rashford is looking better than ever. McCarthy has strived to make him more direct and complete with an emphasis on remaining composed in front of goal and improving his heading. And the training sure seems to have worked, as the England international has bagged 16 goals since the end of the World Cup.

Sancho already looks like a player brimming with confidence, and in all likelihood, will continue to improve throughout the season
Explaining the call to secure McCarthy’s services, Ten Hag said: “In our coaching staff, we had a lot of defenders and midfield players. I wanted to find a good balance. He is offensive-minded as he is a former striker, and that is also a really specific task in the team.”
He continued: “I never played there, so I’m lucky to have someone on my staff who did. Football is about scoring. You have a goalkeeping specialist, but you also have offensive specialists, and, in particular, we have a specific scoring coach.”
