Jeff Stelling says Chris Kamara was worried he would get in trouble for massive blunder
While the world found Chris Kamara’s error nothing short of hilarious, understandably, the man himself was somewhat worried about how it would go down with the bosses.
When asked about what was going through his head at the time, during an exclusive interview with Sporf, Jeff Stelling replied: “I thought, ‘That’s Kammy for you’. It was fantastic. It was down at Fratton Park. In defense of Kammy, he didn’t have the best view of the pitch at the time, and it was also raining, but when he came back and said, ‘Red card? I must’ve missed that’, neither of us at the time realised that it was going to go viral.
“Kammy was in worldwide demand the next day to explain just what went wrong. We didn’t realise the enormity of it, in fact, when Kammy got back to the office, he was afraid he was going to get b——– for making such a mess of things when we all thought it was wonderful.”
Jeff Stelling went on a road trip with Chris Kamara around Sri Lanka
With Stelling and Kamara having cemented their status as one of the best duos in television, the pair received an opportunity to film World’s Most Dangerous Roads.
The presenter reminisced: “It was fantastic. I’d never seen Kammy drive a car before, and having seen him drive on the roads in Sri Lanka, I don’t want to see him drive again, and he thinks the same about me. It was great because at that time, we’d both left Sky, and we hadn’t worked together again since, so when the production company rang up and said they’d like do that [it was great].
“Kammy had been off for some treatment on his voice in Mexico. It worked so well that the production company said, ‘Do you feel like doing it’? It was a wonderful trip. We had a lot of fun, and there were a lot of scary moments during the course of it. The only downside was that when we boarded the flight home, Hartlepool United were beating Oxford City 2-0, but when we landed, we’d lost 5-2.”
Stelling’s career has been nothing short of phenomenal, with the popular personality having taken centre stage in the living room of football fans around the country for many a year.
Now, he’s ready for his next challenge.
