Jon Jones responds to Smith’s ‘failed drug test’ accusations

UFC veteran Jon Jones has responded to claims from Anthony Smith that he failed every drug test in the week leading up to their fight.

Jon Jones has a history when it comes to doping violations with the primary examples being his removal from UFC 200 and the overturning of his win over Daniel Cormier from UFC 214. However, by the time UFC 235 rolled around, ‘Bones’ was thought to be getting things back on track when he defended the UFC light heavyweight title against Anthony Smith.

Jones won the bout via unanimous decision but in a recent interview, two years on from the fight, Smith claimed that Jones had numerous positive drug tests that were seemingly covered up.

“He does this well, he does that well, he was suspended for this, but I never get into his drug test bullsh*t,” Anthony Smith said on The Jenna Ben Show.

“I never even told anyone Jon failed every drug test the entire week leading up to our fight. Every single drug test. I never brought it up one time in any interview, in any media thing, nothing. The commission called me every day to let me know he was still failing his drug tests. I never said anything, I let it be because I was just focused on myself and always believed that if you just focus on yourself you’re going to be that much more successful.”

In response, Jones opted to laugh off the accusations on social media.

“The week of our fight, Jon failed every drug test. Whatever helps you sleep at night buddy.” He wrote in one tweet.

‘Lionheart’ decided to speak out about the potential issue in the wake of Jon making comments about his loss to Glover Teixeira last year.

Moving forward, Jones’ attention will be on his move to heavyweight as he prepares for a potential title fight against reigning champion Francis Ngannou.
