Liverpool fans are beginning to speculate over an unlikely transfer after one Atletico Madrid star watched their Carabao Cup win over Chelsea.
Liverpool won the League Cup 11-10 on penalties in a titanic battle at Wembley Stadium. A comical effort from Kepa Arrizabalaga handed the Reds their first trophy since lifting the Premier League two seasons ago.
Undoubtedly star of the show, Caoimhin Kelleher netted Liverpool’s winning penalty. Deputising for number-one Allison, the victory perfectly demonstrated the strength in depth at Jurgen Klopp‘s disposal. With suitable cover in every position, Liverpool are beginning to dream of a historic quadruple.
With one trophy already in the bag, the Reds will return to action against Norwich in the FA Cup during midweek. Mounting a charge on all four fronts remains a possibility for Liverpool heading into the season’s closing months.

The latest addition to Liverpool’s squad has been Luis Diaz, who joined from Porto in the January window. An instant hit on Merseyside, the Colombian has perfectly integrated himself into the team. Traditionally shrewd operators in the transfer market, there are suggestions Liverpool could splash the cash on one Atletico star.
Atletico star linked with Liverpool transfer after Wembley visit
Pictured in the Liverpool end during the Carabao Cup final, Joao Felix enjoyed watching the Reds at Wembley. Posting various photos on his Instagram, the Atletico forward’s appearance sent the rumour mill into full swing.
Although the purpose of his appearance is unknown, Liverpool fans are starting to dream of a summer move for Felix.
While he is in the form of his life, there are still questions over Mohamed Salah‘s future at Liverpool. Meanwhile, both Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino will be over 30 by the end of the season. With one of the famous trio likely to leave in the summer, a space in Liverpool’s front three will be up for grabs.
Having struggled at times during his Atletico career, there are suggestions Felix could want a move away from Spain. Liverpool would offer the Portuguese international an ideal destination to reignite his career. Also, Felix’s high-energy and versatile game would perfectly suit Klopp’s ‘heavy metal’ style of play.
With a contract due to run until June 2026, it is unlikely Liverpool will pick Felix up on the cheap; Atletico hold the cards in any deal, though, as his release clause stands at €350 million. Should the Reds wish to bring him in, they’ll have to hope Atletico are willing to negotiate on a less expensive deal.
