Liverpool Make Decision On Arne Slot’s Future After PSG Defeat

Liverpool’s board have made a decision on Arne Slot’s future as the club’s manager, following Wednesday night’s 2-0 humbling against Paris Saint-Germain.

Slot’s Premier League champions were soundly beaten in the French capital. A 2-0 scoreline will actually be considered a disappointment by Luis Enrique’s charges, who dominated the game from kick off to the final whistle.

Unless Liverpool can overturn the two goal deficit in the round of 16 second-leg at Anfield, next week, the Reds are set for a silverware-free season for the first time in three years.

Liverpool’s season hanging by a thread

Ahead of their humbling in Paris, Liverpool were emphatically swept out of the FA Cup at the quarter-final stage by Manchester City, last weekend. An Erling Haaland hat-trick saw off the Reds in an embarrassing 4-0 defeat at the Etihad Stadium.

A lot of pressure has mounted on Slot, with the Dutchman facing severe criticism for much of this season. This despite leading Liverpool to a Premier League title in his first season in charge, at Anfield.

Liverpool currently lie in fifth place in the Premier League table. It is a position that would secure them Champions League football for next season. However, the campaign so far has been regarded as a bitter disappointment, considering the Anfield club spent almost £450 million on seven new players, last summer.

However, it does not appear the club are thinking of relieving Arne Slot of his duties. Not yet, anyway.

Arne Slot’s future could come down to the summer transfer window

The Telegraph are reporting that Slot is safe. For now. The Liverpool board believe the former Feyenoord boss deserves to be in the dugout at the beginning of next season. It is also believed that the summer transfer window, which would be the Dutchman’s fourth as Liverpool manager, is a defining point for Arne Slot’s future.

Former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso has been linked with the manager’s job at Anfield in recent weeks. The Spaniard is available after being let go by Real Madrid earlier this season.

Of course, another famous night under the lights at Anfield could be on the cards. Next week could see the mood around Liverpool improved with an unexpected victory. Should that happen, suddenly Arne Slot’s future is looking a lot rosier on Merseyside.

Or PSG will repeat their exploits of last season and advance to the quarter-finals following victory at Anfield.
