Liverpool vs Man City: Community Shield TV channel, kick-off time, injury news

The 2022/23 football season gets its first competitive match this weekend. Here is all the info you need for the 2022 Community Shield, including the start time, injury news, and what TV Channel to tune in to.

Interestingly, this year’s game is at Leicester’s King Power stadium. The Women’s Euros final is at Wembley on 31 July, thus forcing the FA to use an alternate venue. This is the first time that the Community Shield has taken place away from Wembley since 2006.

Liverpool and Manchester City battle in the Community shield for the first time since 2019. In that battle, Pep Guardiola’s side took home the trophy after winning on penalties following a 1-1 draw. However, in 2022, these two sides are different beasts.

Last season’s top two teams consistently push each other to incredible levels of consistency and success whilst being almost perfectly matched. City narrowly claimed the Premier League title over the Reds last season. Meanwhile, Liverpool won both domestic cups and reached the Champions League final.

In addition, their summer moves have only added further intrigue to their rivalry. Both clubs have shelled out large sums for new forwards. Erling Haaland has followed in his father’s footsteps, arriving at the Etihad for £51 million.

Similarly, Jurgen Klopp’s side paid Benfica an initial £64 million for Uruguayan attacker Darwin Nunez.

It is entirely possible that both strikers will make their competitive debuts for their new clubs, making this match a mouth-watering prospect. So, what time is it on?

Community Shield TV channel and kick-off

For British TV viewers, the 2022 Community Shield is on the ITV channel (STV for Scotland). On Sky, Freeview, and Virgin Media, this is number 103 for the HD channel.

Also, if you miss kick-off, that is not a problem. ITV has a +1 channel showing its content an hour after the initial start time. However, this is not in HD as it stands. For Freeview viewers, ITV+1 is number 35, whereas on Sky, it is 203, and Virgin Media, 114.

The kick-off is at 5pm on Saturday 30 July. In addition, if you are on the move but do not want to miss the action, viewers can watch along on the ITV hub. This app allows you to watch live on several different devices.

Team news

Liverpool are suffering from a short-term injury crisis in the goalkeeper position. They are down to third-choice keeper Adrian, with Jurgen Klopp confirming that the Spaniard will start on Saturday. Unfortunately, both Alisson and Kelleher are injured for the Reds.

But don’t worry too much, Liverpool fans; Alisson should be fit for the Premier League opening weekend.

Also among the absentees are a pair of defenders. Kostas Tsimikas and new signing Calvin Ramsay will both miss out through injury, as does Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, per Metro. Diogo Jota is also out for the Community Shield, with his injury set to “take a while” to recover from (BBC Sport).

In the City camp, Pep Guardiola has nearly a full squad to choose from for the season-opening match. Despite missing the pre-season tour, Ilkay Gundogan, Phil Foden, and John Stones are all fit for the game. Erling Haaland should be available too but is carrying a knock per The Evening Standard.

Contrastingly, Aymeric Laporte will likely miss the Community Shield as he recovers from a knee injury. Hopefully, both managers respect this traditional match and put out strong line-ups for the game. If they do, viewers could be in for an early-season treat.
