What happened in Liverpool legends vs Barcelona legends?

It’s fair to say that this group of players were never going to disappoint. They produced a sensational fixture full to brim with nostalgia.

After just 14 minutes, Edmilson dragged Steven Gerrard down in the box, and the referee pointed to the spot. The Anfield captain calmly slotted his penalty into the bottom corner to give ‘The Reds’ the lead.

Shortly after, Finish icon Sami Hyypia nearly doubled their lead, but the Barca defence cleared his bullet of a header from off the line. But then the La Liga team began to get into the game. They started passing the ball around the park with no obvious differences from how they would’ve in their prime.

To add a bit of humour to proceedings, Jamie Carragher launched himself to the floor in front of the wall to stop Roberto Trashorras from firing his kick low. But there was nothing for the home crowd to laugh about when Giovanni emerged through on goal. He smashed it past Sander Westerveld to level the score just before half-time.

Liverpool vs Barcelona – second half

The English side struggled to contain Giovanni. After making a move into the box, Phil Babb dragged him down, resulting in a Barca penalty. Rivaldo stepped up to the spot and reminiscent of his brilliant best, smashed the ball into the top-left corner.

Although the Premier League giants desperately pressed forward in pursuit of the equaliser, they were unable to find it. The game ultimately finished in a 2-1 victory for the visitors. But the result wasn’t the most important thing.

The contest gave fans an opportunity to relive the glory days of some of their favourite stars. The squads in the Liverpool legends vs Barcelona legends did themselves proud, all while raising money for a very good cause.
