Man United look to Serie A for alternatives to Harry Kane transfer

Man United are reportedly becoming less interested in making a move for Spurs striker Harry Kane in the summer. Instead, the club has identified a pair of star forwards in Serie A that could come to Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag’s side have a need for a clear No.9 in their squad. Although Wout Weghorst arrived in January, his presence on the pitch has not translated into a goalscoring role. Marcus Rashford has been their main contributor – but he needs support.

As a result, United are looking to the transfer market in order to improve their attack.

First and foremost, the Red Devils are long-time admirers of Victor Osimhen. The Napoli striker has emerged as one of the best forwards in Europe, leading the Serie A goal charts. His 19 strikes from 22 games have allowed Napoli to be on the cusp of their first Scudetto in over 30 years.

However, United will definitely face competition for his signature. Per The Express, domestic rivals Man City and Chelsea are both monitoring Osimhen’s status in Naples. Many of Europe’s elite clubs will also likely be circulating to make a move.

Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sports Germany states that the Nigerian may command a fee of €100m. Osimhen is an expensive option, but he could be more appealing than an attempt at Harry Kane.

Man United moving away from Harry Kane transfer?

According to ESPN, the Red Devils are reluctant to commit to pursuing the England captain. Their reasoning? Tottenham owner Daniel Levy.

Sources for the US Sports Network said: “United cannot afford to start the season without a new striker. And, having dealt with Levy in the past, they don’t want to go through that nightmare all over again for Kane with so much at stake. So, they might not even get involved.”

Speculation surrounding Kane’s Tottenham future has increased as Spurs will go trophyless again in 2022/23. Many believe that he should seek pastures new – such as an improved Man United – in order to finally win some silverware.

Instead of Man United, Harry Kane may end up moving abroad. Bayern Munich are a possible destination if the striker would like to take that route. Per Goal, the Bavarians view Kane, whose contract expires in 2024, as a great fit. They will not spend above their means to get him, though.

If United fail to land either Osimhen or Kane, they do have another Serie A star in mind.

Red Devils may explore Dusan Vlahovic transfer

Alternatively, the Old Trafford side could target Dusan Vlahovic of Juventus. Calciomercato in Italy claims that United are the leading club chasing the Serbian.

Unfortunately, though, they are not alone. Real Madrid have previously kept tabs on Vlahovic, and Bayern Munich could be tempted, too.

Unlike Victor Osimhen, who is enjoying a stellar campaign, Vlahovic is having a down season. The forward only has 10 goals in all competitions in 2022/23, with his most recent strike coming almost a month ago.

Despite this, the 23-year-old is a supremely talented, natural No.9 who would definitely improve Man United’s attack. He is, therefore, an intriguing option that could develop under Erik ten Hag.
