The German has had an electrifying career, winning the DFB-Pokal on two separate occasions before flying out to California to dazzle American fans by winning the 2024 MLS Cup with LA Galaxy.
But, like many legends before him, he was once just a prospect hoping to emulate the achievements of his heroes.

Marco Reus says Tomáš Rosický was his football idol
English fans remember Tomáš Rosický for his time at Arsenal, in which the Czech midfielder impressed purists with his eye for the perfect pass and highly impressive footballing IQ.
But prior to his time in the Premier League, he was setting the Bundesliga alight at Borussia Dortmund, where Marco Reus used to watch him in awe.
In an exclusive interview with Sporf, the LA Galaxy icon enthused: “When I was young, and I saw him for the first time in a BVB jersey, I enjoyed how he was performing, how he dribbled, and his movement. I played the same position that he used to play. When he was at Dortmund, it was a nice feeling to have him to see how he works and how he played games, that’s why when I was really young he was one of my idols.”

As the clock strikes midnight (GMT) on February 23, Reus’ side will clash with New York City in its first game of the 2026 MLS season.
And the 36-year-old is going into this campaign with his heart fixated on reaching one major goal.
In his exclusive interview with Sporf, Reus revealed exactly he wants to achieve in the MLS.
