MLB have unveiled the jerseys that Baseball’s biggest stars will sport during the 2023 All-Star game – themed around the host city of Seattle.
US sportswear Nike is providing the threads for the occasion, with the AL and NL squads enjoying different uniforms.
Firstly, the American League unit enjoys a tasteful, yet understated, teal jersey. This represents the forestry around Seattle and the state of Washington in the Northwest of America.
Emblazoned across the chest of the jersey is “AMERICAN” in white lettering, with the second “A” replaced by the MLB logo housed within a star.
Similarly, the National League has “NATIONAL” written across the middle of the top. However, the opposing league’s jersey is in a deep navy shade – a tribute to the nearby Pacific Ocean on the US west coast.
Another noteworthy feature of these jerseys for the Midsummer Classic is the first use of Nike’s new material. Called “Nike Vapor Premier”, this new tech has multiple properties to benefit both the players and the planet.
Per MLB, the All-Star jerseys will be made from 90% recycled polyester thanks to Nike’s innovation. Additionally, the Dri-FIT tech within the uniforms makes them more breathable and removes moisture even quicker than before.
We now know which MLB players will don these fantastic jerseys during the 2023 All-Star game following the announcement of the starting field.
2023 MLB All-Star game AL starters
Some of the biggest stars in the game will be taking to the field for this year’s Midsummer Classic at the Seattle Mariners’ T-Mobile Park.
Starting with the American League, the Texas Rangers lead everyone with four starters in the 2023 All-Star game. Catcher Jonah Heim, 3B Josh Jung, and SS Corey Seager all make their first All-Star starting appearances. Meanwhile, their teammate, 2B Marcus Semien, enjoys his second career election.
Completing the AL infield is Tampa Bay Rays’ 1B, Yandy Diaz. Like the trio of Rangers stars, Diaz has earned his first All-Star selection.
The outfielders representing the AL are three MVP-calibre players. Firstly, Mike Trout has received an incredible 10th-career All-Star spot. The Angels outfielder is joined by a fellow AL MVP, Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees.
Randy Arozarena completes the outfield for the American League, making his All-Star debut start.
Completing the field for the AL at DH is Shohei Ohtani. The Angels superstar will be making his third outing in the MLB All-Star game after leading voting. Incredibly, Ohtani leads Major League Baseball in home runs when batting, and is first in batting average against when pitching. A truly unique player in the league.
2023 All-Star game NL starters
The National League-leading Atlanta Braves have three players heading to Seattle in just over a week’s time. Sean Murphy is the NL catcher, one of many players to make their first Midsummer Classic start. Orlando Arcia (shortstop) and Ronald Acuna Jr. (outfield) complete the Braves trio.
Like Ohtani for the AL, Acuna was the top vote-getter out of all the NL players.
In similarity to the Braves, the Los Angeles Dodgers boast an All-Star trio in 2023. They are Freddie Freeman, who makes his fourth ASG at first base. Mookie Betts joins Freeman but in the outfield. Lastly, J.D. Martinez is the third Dodger, earning the Designated hitter spot.
Covering the rest of the bases are Miami’s Luis Arraez on second and St. Louis Cardinals’ 3B Nolan Arenado. MLB batting average leader Arraez makes his All-Star starting bow, with Arenado earning a fifth appearance.
Rounding out the starting nine is the eighth All-Star debutant. Arizona Diamondbacks star Corbin Carroll, a Seattle native, completes the NL outfield. Alongside Rangers rookie Josh Jung, Carroll ensures that the two All-Star teams will have a rookie in their starting line-up for the first time ever.
The players, and their wonderful jerseys, will entertain fans during the 2023 All-Star game on 11 July. With regard to reserves and pitchers, the league will announce these on 2 July.
