New statistics show how Man United compare to previous worst PL seasons

Man United are having their worst season in recent memory, and these statistics put into context just how badly they have played.

At the start of the campaign, Red Devils fans had an overwhelming sense of optimism. And why wouldn’t they? After all, they’d just signed wonderkid Jadon Sancho and elite defender Raphael Varane. In addition, they brought home Cristiano Ronaldo.

But their hopes and dreams quickly fell by the wayside as they plummetted further into despair.

They have played terribly throughout the season. Their shocking loss to Brighton on May 7 highlighted that their issues extend far beyond a quick fix. In an embarrassing display, United let the Seagulls run riot.

Inside the opening 15 minutes, Moisés Caicedo kicked off the demolition job by bagging his first goal for Brighton from way outside the box.

The visitors managed to hold on for the rest of the half. But then disaster struck. In just 11 second-half minutes, Marc Cucurella, Pascal Groß and Leandro Trossard all made their way through the opposition’s defence to find the back of the net.

United lost the game 4-0, and their fans were left raging. Not only had they sustained a horrific result, but they also had to say goodbye to any hope of qualifying for the Champions League.

Regardless of whoever the manager has been, the squad have failed to perform. Consequently, their supporters have started to blame the players. They appear to lack motivation and dedication and after their recent loss, the chants of ‘you’re not fit to wear the shirt’, echoed around the stadium.

But perhaps the only way to get a true insight into why United have crumbled so badly is to look at the numbers.

Man United statistics show data behind lacklustre performances

Granted, Old Trafford hasn’t seen much success in the last eight years. But this season, United have performed even worse than usual. A recent study conducted by BritishGambler.co.uk shows that the club has broken records in two departmentsbut not in the way fans would like.

With just two games left of the campaign, it looked like United would avoid making history for all the wrong reasons. But the pattern at the moment proved that the club can’t help itself.

After conceding four goals against Brighton, the club has broken their record for the most goals they’ve ever conceded in the Premier League.

But perhaps more embarrassingly, after losing 11 games and drawing a further 10, United will record their lowest points tally in the club’s 30-year tenure in the Premier League, regardless of the final day result.
