Newcastle United look to have finally sealed their first signing of the summer transfer window, meaning every Premier League club has made one addition to their side at least.
The Magpies have been hot in pursuit of Joe Willock ever since he joined on loan from Arsenal and provided an exceptional display for the side.
The northeast club have taken things down to the wire, being the last club to bring in new additions.
But now, it is reported via the Telegraph that Willock has agreed to a deal with Newcastle, signing a lengthy six-year deal at the club.
The signing, when officialised, will be a huge boost in morale for Newcastle: the support are still licking their wounds as the takeover led by the PIF consortium has been dragged out even further, with a tribunal to happen next year.
Bruce gets his boy
Boss Steve Bruce has had the youngester on the target list for a considerable period. But even when he sealed the loan deal of the 21-year-old in January he surely could not have foreseen the impact in which Willock would have.
Speaking during the last season’s campaign back in April, via the Guardian, Bruce said: “I think Joe’s thoroughly enjoying it here.
“There’s a lot of conversations to be had but why wouldn’t we want to sign him? He’s 21, he’s young, fit, athletic, he can score a goal and he’s got wonderful pace. Arguably Joe is as quick as anyone at this club.”
“It was quite refreshing yesterday to hear Joe talking about driving out to the coast and seeing the sea. Living in London, I don’t think he gets to see the sea that often… And I certainly think he enjoyed the adulation of scoring the winner against West Ham last week.
“He’s got a big future. He’s the right type, the right profile – you’d love to build a team around a young player like Joe. If there’s a chance to bring him here next season, I’d love to get it done.”
