Newcastle United 2022/23 away kit will resemble Saudi Arabia colours and strip

Newcastle United have caused controversy after revealing their 2022/23 away kit. The designers have crafted a Saudi Arabia-inspired jersey in a move that will shock football fans.

Earlier this season, to the delight of ‘Magpies’ supporters, Mike Ashley’s spell of ownership came to an end. But after he decided to leave, in stepped new bosses who’ve brought even more controversy. To fans who simply care about the state of the club, Public Investment Fund’s takeover likely filled them with joy.

With a new worth of £320 billion according to ESPN, Newcastle have become the richest team on the planet. However, amid all the human rights violations in Saudi Arabia, many view the move as clear sportswashing.

Newcastle takeover protests

While some fans took to the streets in traditional Saudi headwear, others stood up for their beliefs. Prior to their fixture against Tottenham on October 17, activists drove a van around the stadium highlighting the death of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

The Washington Post writer vocally criticised the Saudi regime and paid the price. Rather than accept the criticism of their country, 15 government agents murdered the victim and dismembered his body.

But regardless, the fans seem to have welcomed their new owners with open arms. To illustrate this, after the takeover, they actually celebrated their newfound money.

The new bosses have already purchased Kieran Trippier, among others, and he’s only one of the many big stars who’ll move to St James’ Park in years to come.

Amid these exciting spending sprees, Newcastle fans should remember where the funds are coming from. The new away jersey will serve as a reminder.

Newcastle United 2022/23 away kit looks like Saudi Arabia strip

The Daily Mail have revealed their Castore designed kit will feature the traditional green and white of the Gulf state. Furthermore, the crest and the trim of the neck and sleeves are coloured green and sit on a white canvas, bearing an uncanny resemblance to the Saudi Arabian national side.

This will likely attract massive opposition from opposing teams. But in bulk, Newcastle supporters won’t bat an eyelid.

However, the divisive shirt has conjured up an element of tension among hardcore supporters. Some believe that you should enjoy the ride and appreciate the success that is about to come your way. In contrast, others feel uncomfortable with the association with the human rights laws in the Middle Eastern country.
