US sportswear giant Nike have unveiled the kits for 13 nations that will be at this summer’s Women’s World Cup – with some stunning designs on show.
The brand has the most representatives of any maker at the upcoming tournament in Australia & New Zealand. And, thanks to some brilliant innovations, Nike will ensure that their kits will allow some of the game’s biggest stars to perform at their best.
For instance, the brand has developed “Nike Leak Protection: Period” shorts for players to wear.
“Professional footballers play two 45-minute halves without breaks. Many told us they can spend several minutes on-pitch concerned that they may experience leakage from their period,” explained Nike VP Jordana Katcher. “When we showed them this innovation, they told us how grateful they were to have this short to help provide confidence when they can’t leave the pitch.”
Additionally, the Nike Women’s World Cup kits boast newly developed material to help keep players cool. Meanwhile, the strips are made from 100% recycled materials – meaning there is an element of sustainability.
The likes of the tournament favourites England, the USA, and Australia will all have Nike gear this summer. Other teams include Brazil, France, the Netherlands, Portugal, South Korea, China, Nigeria, and more.
But who has the best shirts from Nike’s collection? Here are our top 3 Nike Women’s World Cup kits.
Canada home kit
Firstly, Canada boast a sublime home kit that has a modern take on a classic design. Nike have incorporated black into the traditional red home strip – making for a daring combination. Geometric triangle patterns dominate the jersey, with a black Maple Leaf also showing up in multiple places.
Plain black shorts and red socks then help to make the spectacular shirt stand out.
As Canada are in a group with Australia, Ireland, and Nigeria, this kit should definitely make an appearance this summer.
England away kit
The Lionesses get to sport one of Nike’s best kits at the 2023 Women’s World Cup. Drawing inspiration from the Art Deco movement, England’s away strip combines classic colours with bold patterns.
Triangular-pattern stripes make this light blue kit a two-tone sort of effort. Meanwhile, dark blue panels on the shorts and kit trim add further layers of quality.
Despite seeing the colour frequently for the men’s team, Nike’s introduction of blue is historic for the Lionesses. Since they have had their own bespoke kits – that is, not using the same as the men’s – England women’s team have not used blue away strips.
So, this is a first for Sarina Wiegman’s side, and they are doing it in some style.
Brazil away kit
Finally, rounding out our top 3 Women’s World Cup kits for Australia & New Zealand 2023 is Brazil’s away. Building on the success of the men’s Qatar World Cup alternate, this shirt is in a striking blue shade, too. In contrast to the men’s, though, Nike have replaced the jaguar-pattern on the shoulders.
Instead, this Brazil collection has a foliage pattern reminiscent of the Amazon rainforest. It is visible in a dramatic electric green that matches the V-neck collar.
Elsewhere, Nike have matched the shirt with white shorts and blue socks. This is in keeping with the traditional Selecao away strips of the past. Overall, though, the beautifully designed shirt really makes this kit unique.
Although there are still a few months before we see any team take the field at the World Cup. The tournament does not begin until 20 July, when co-hosts New Zealand face 1995 champions Norway.
