Darren Fletcher appears to make a huge mistake during Newcastle vs Qarabag

Tonight, football enthusiasts across the country sat down in front of their TV screens, switched over to TNT Sports, where Darren Fletcher was waiting to talk them through the action.

By the 62nd minute, Newcastle were already 5-1 up, and seemingly cruising towards victory, when the commentator made a statement, that instantly caught the attention of the viewers due to the pronunciation of the opposing team’s name.

It sounded as if he said: “It’s not been anywhere near as easy for Newcastle to slice through carrier bag.”

Subsequently, fans headed to social media in their masses to point out what they believed to be a monumental blunder.

One person wrote: “100% Darren Fletcher just called them carrier bag,” while a second added: “Darren Fletcher really just called Qarabag, ‘carrier bag’.”

Another person tweeted: “Oh no, he just called the home team ‘carrier bag’.” While a fourth questioned: “Did Darren Fletcher genuinely just call Qarabag, ‘carrier bag’?”

Regardless of what was said, fans seemed to get a laugh out of it. Although, in all likelihood, the man in the metaphorical firing line will undoubtedly know the name of the team he was covering, irrespective of whether he made a mistake in the moment.
