Pierce O’Leary found a 6ft8 monster inside the pub he was living in… ‘I heard alarms’

EXCLUSIVE: Pierce O’Leary couldn’t believe his eyes when he discovered a 6ft8 powerhouse who’d ended up inside the pub he was living in after closing time.

Tonight, the IBO super lightweight champion puts his title on the line against Mark Chamberlain at the 3Arena in Dublin, Ireland.

Pierce O’Leary has wild memories from living in a pub

While today, fans know Pierce O’Leary for being a formidable operator, capable of going toe-to-toe with the best of the best, at one point he was just a prospect with a dream, living above a pub in London, UK, in order to remain close to the gym in which he believed he could learn the skills that would take him all the way to the top of the sport.

And while his plan worked out, making a boozer his home certainly came with its interesting moments, with one in particular standing out from the pack.

In an exclusive interview with Sporf, the boxer reminisced: “I heard alarms going off, and we’d only closed an hour beforehand, so the first thing I thought was that it had been busy, so someone was breaking in to get the money. I didn’t hear any movements, just the alarms. I thought that was strange, so, I went downstairs. I was opening all the doors, and there was nothing there, so I was wondering what was going on. But when I looked up, there was this big 6ft8 fellow with blonde hair; he was twice the size of the guy from Sons of Anarchy. He was massive with a black leather jacket. I went, ‘Oy’. He looked up, but he was drunk and looking for his way out; he’d fallen asleep in the toilets. I got up, grabbed the key, let him out, locked up, and that was it.”

Pierce O’Leary is expecting a massive statement against Mark Chamberlain

While O’Leary has worked incredibly hard to claim his IBO title, in order to keep it the warrior knows he’ll have to produce a big performance tonight, as his opponent certainly isn’t coming to make up the numbers.

The Irishman exclaimed: “I’m not overlooking Mark Chamberlain at all. He’s a fantastic fighter. He’s only 27 and has been on big shows in Saudi Arabia. He’s been there and done it. I’m excited because he’s a good operator. People haven’t seen the best of me yet. They all bang on about what a great performance it was against Maxi Hughes, but I just did what I needed to do to beat him. But this is the real fight, the one that I’ve always had my eye on. I’m looking forward to going out and getting the job done. I’m expecting a high-level performance from myself.”
