Ralf Rangnick comments on Erik Ten Hag links for permanent Man United job

Ralf Rangnick has finally opened up about his feelings on Manchester United’s number one target Erik ten Hag.

The German is adapting well to life at Old Trafford. It may have taken him several weeks to find his feet, with shot-stopper David De Gea saving him from moments of disaster, but it appears the 63-year-old’s methods are finally coming to fruition.

He’s guided United on an impressive run of form in which they’ve only lost one league game since his arrival. And on February 23, his side secured a late away goal to find a draw against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.

The German is renowned for taking over struggling teams and turning the tide. United were a car crash when he took over, but he’s elevated them into a position where they could secure a place in Europe next season.

However, he’s set to step back into a consultancy role at the end of the campaign. Therefore, the club is on the hunt for a permanent head coach.

Who are the candidates to take over the Man United managerial role?

‘The Red Devils’ are hunting far and wide for the man who can finally take the club back to their glory days. Despite the recruitment of elite-level managers like Jose Mourinho and Louis Van Gaal, no one has found the magic ingredients to bring the spark back to the Theatre of Dreams.

This means it’s imperative that no stone remains unturned in the selection process. They need to find the right manager. The rumour mill is rife with potential names. Some feel Mauricio Pochettino is the right guy to whip the players into shape; Brendan Rogers is another candidate.

But there’s one candidate that stands out above the rest, and he’s endorsed by United’s interim boss.

Erik Ten Hag recieves compliments from Ralf Rangnick

The current favourite to take over the reins at Old Trafford is none other than Ajax boss Erik Ten Hag. The Dutchman has worked wonders since he took over at his current club. During the 2018-19 Champions League, he guided the underestimated team on a fantastic journey to the semi-finals.

They captured the hearts of fans with remarkable victories over Real Madrid and Juventus. In addition, he’s picked up two Eredivisie and looks likely to bag another at the end of the season. So it’s no surprise that Rangnick rates him. During an interview with Sky Sports, he refused to admit that Ten Hag’s appointment is in the pipeline.

But he did confess his true opinion of the 52-year-old.

The German said: “We haven’t at all spoken about that. We haven’t had that topic in the last weeks and months since I’ve come here. I know my opinion. But so far, we haven’t spoken about that, so this is what I can tell you.”

“I don’t know him as a person. But I see the development at Ajax since he took over. I also know about the work he did at Bayern Munich, and that he’s one of the top coaches in Europe. But we haven’t spoken about any managers yet.

“Therefore, we also haven’t spoken about him.”

If Ten Hag does take the helm at Manchester United in the summer, fans can rejoice in the fact that their current manager believes that he’s more than up to the challenge.
