Rey Mysterio reveals plans to retire from WWE

With the rumour mill rife with talks that Rey Mysterio will retire at WWE Wrestlemania 39, the Mexican superstar has decided to put our minds at rest and give us some much-needed clarity.

This weekend, ‘The Biggest Little Man’ in the sport will go toe-to-toe with his own son, in a bout fuelled by bad blood.

It goes without saying that the 48-year-old did everything to raise Dominik Mysterio the right way. But unfortunately, the youngster turned towards ‘The Judgement Day’ and consequently betrayed his devastated father.

Now, with so much on the line, they’ll finally settle who the top dog in the family is once and for all.

While the WWE Universe still adores the all-time great, Father Time, waits for no man. However, ultimately, after over two decades at the pinnacle of the sport, there isn’t much else the legend can do.

He’s won three world titles, headlined Wrestlemania and even emerged victorious in the Royal Rumble Match. But sadly, we need to enjoy what little time we have left of the icon.

Rey Mysterio discusses WWE retirement

While the high-flyer won’t call it a day at Wrestlemania, he’s only got a couple more years in the tank.

He told WESH 2 News, via PostWrestling.com: “I’ve always had this number in mind and it just kept getting higher and higher every single time just because of how great my body has been feeling and overall, how since my schedule slimmed down, I feel like this energetic person that loves to go in there and perform on a once-a-week basis. It just brings out a different type of energy. But, I had 5-0, 50 was the number that I said I was — I cannot, and I don’t think I will go past it.

Discussing the announcement of his induction to the Hall of Fame, he added: “To be able to be inducted and given such a prestige honour of being part of the Hall of Fame, it’s like the ultimate in your career. You always think that, hoping that one day when you retire, that offer is presented to you, but here it is, you know? I’m in somewhat of the peak of my career, maybe because I still feel great. I feel like I can compete on the level of other superstars. But overall, it’s just a dream come true.
