Roy Keane has told Mason Mount to ignore “idiots” who don’t rate him as his rise continues.
Mount featured in England’s win over Poland last night and has cemented himself as a favourite under Gareth Southgate in the international setup.
Keane backs Mount
Mount has also emerged as one of Chelsea’s most important players across the last couple of years. Despite that, the midfielder still seems to attract a bizarre amount of criticism for someone who clearly has an incredible amount of ability.
When talking about Mount on ITV Sport, Keane highlighted that it’s no coincidence that each manager he’s played under generally picks him in their side.
“Well that is pretty important, that your manager likes you,” Keane said. “It doesn’t matter what people outside the game think, there are a lot of idiots out there.”
“Ultimately, I think the players pick the team and he has performed well enough for every manager to say ‘listen you are going to be in my starting line up.’
“Outstanding player. He wants to be an all round midfielder. I never hear anything negative about him off the pitch, he seems a brilliant young kid, he has gone out on loan and he has done it the hard way.
“He is a fantastic player.”
Keane is one of the many pundits who have thrown their backing behind the Chelsea man. Gary Linekar also praised the 22-year-old ahead of last night’s game, labelling him a “prodigious talent”,
I can’t believe we’re still having the @masonmount_10 debate. Does anyone still not see his prodigious talent? I mean seriously? What a player.

Given that he’s a regular starter for one of the biggest clubs in England, along with the national side, you have to wonder what else Mount has to do to convince the few who still don’t rate him.
Think we’re siding with Keane on this one.
