Scott Steiner warned TNA president that Hulk Hogan would ‘run her out of business’

WWE Hall of Famer Jeff Jarrett has revealed a conversation Scott Steiner had with former TNA president Dixie Carter back in 2009, warning her of the risks Hulk Hogan posed to her organisation.

Hulk Hogan is one of the biggest stars in wrestling history. The superstar sits alongside the Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, and Andre the Giant as one of the greats.

Hogan’s moustache and fighting style are iconic, and the whole world recognises his famous yellow and red colours outfit.

Hogan’s politicking

Hogan divided opinions during his career. The wrestler often manipulated the decision-makers to make calls which benefitted him.

Hogan would divide his fellow professionals too because the wrestler would change pre-arranged storylines to suit him. This resulted in many fallouts.

Famously, in the World War 3 three-ring Battle Royal for the WCW title in 1995, Hogan refused to be eliminated by The Giant – as previously arranged – and proceeded to take the spotlight away from winner Randy Savage by throwing a tantrum at the end of the match.

Steiner warned Carter about Hogan

On the latest episode of the My World podcast, Jarrett revealed Steiner’s conversation with then-TNA president Carter in 2009.

Hogan joined TNA in 2009 in a backstage role. After a short time working with the WWE Hall of Famer, Steiner was fed up with his politicking.

Jarrett recounted Steiner’s conversation with Carter. He said: “I was on the outs. Dixie sent me home. He (Scott Steiner) went and had the conversation with Dixie, looked her in the face, and said, ‘Do you think you made the right decision sending Jeff home?’ It was straight up, no string attached, no frills, no political b.s. He said, ‘Dixie, we’re running a business here. Do you think you made the right decision?’ Obviously, I wasn’t there, but Scott said she couldn’t get away from him quick enough. It got uncomfortable, and Scott didn’t want to be uncomfortable. He looked Dixie in the eye and said, ‘Hulk Hogan will run you out of business. He will put you out of business.

“I had been sent home. The Main Event Mafia was disbanded. Hulk had come in, promised her the moon, got rid of the six-sided ring, and this and that. So it was clearly Dixie and Hulk leading the charge. Scott Steiner went up to her and said, ‘Do you think you made the right decision? We’re making money, and the ratings are good.’ He understood how fragile the dynamic could be. He didn’t want to come off screaming or hollering. He said it low-key.”

The fall of TNA

From 2013 to 2014, many well-known names left TNA as a result of mismanagement. The future of TNA looked bleak by the time Hogan left the company in October 2013.

Despite some success after moving to broadcaster Discovery Communications, the company fell into financial issues in the following years.

After three years of difficulties, the company was bought by Anthem Sports & Entertainment in 2017 and was re-branded as Impact Wrestling.

Impact Wrestling still broadcasts today, but the loss of many household names has seen the network become far less popular than it used to be. It remains an afterthought behind the likes of WWE and AEW, which have much larger followings.
