The talented goalkeeper, who has produced some big saves throughout his career, has also developed a reputation for making mistakes. Alas, tonight, in Club Brugge’s Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid, disaster struck once again for the Belgian.

Simon Mignolet makes Champions League mistake

Last week, Club Brugge produced a late moment of magic to secure a 3-3 draw against the La Liga giants. However, all the side’s good work soon came undone when the ball arrived at the feet of Alexander Sorloth, who fired his shot low right under Simon Mignolet, who, in the eyes of fans, ought to have made a save.

One X user wrote: “Simon Mignolet has GOT to do better for Atletico Madrid’s opener here.”

Another added: “Mignolet’s got to own that one. Weak hands on the shot, ball squirms through, and Atletico snatch the lead on aggregate. 4-3 now, but that’s a howler from a top keeper. Come on, Simon, lock it down!

The mistake spelled the beginning of the end for Club Brugge, with Atletico Madrid ultimately winning the game 4-1 to progress to the next round of the competition with an overall aggregate win of 7-4.
