Manchester United fans are in dreamland as reports emerged that their manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjær, wishes to hand out contract extensions to four of their best players.
Last weekend’s hero Bruno Fernandes, along with Marcus Rashford, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw are reportedly on the bosses’ list for new deals, according to The Sun.
It is also hoped that Paul Pogba can be persuaded to stay further, his contract ending next summer.
Fernandes, who bagged a hat-trick against Leeds on the opening day, still has five years left on his contract. Even still, Solskjaer wishes to take his £100,000-a-week and make it more in line with the club’s highest-paid players.
At the moment their biggest earner is David de Gea, who’s on £375,000 a week, followed by Pogba on £290,000.
The Red Devils’ 5-1 demolition of Leeds at Old Trafford has set a great precedent going forward, as United look towards achieving their first league title since 2013 .
Ole’s at the wheel
After the win on home soil, Solskjær spoke about his admiration for how the side performed.
“You’ve got to say well done to everyone – from the crowd to the players to the staff this week, the coaches, “he said via the club’s official site.
“Everything’s been spot on and to get this result and performance on the first day gives you a massive boost. It’s just the mood. But it’s one game and we should always pat ourselves on the back and taste that sweet victory. Tomorrow, we’re back on track for the next one.”
“Sir Alex always used to say enjoy it and express yourself. You have to enjoy the privilege and the pressure of playing in front of 75,000 and millions on TV. I knew we would work hard but it was the fitness levels I wasn’t 100 per cent sure of. We could smile at the end!”
