SPORF’s exclusive Carabao Cup Round Four preview

The 2021/22 Carabao Cup is now further hotting up as it enters the closing stages, with 16 teams set to battle it out in Round Four in an attempt to take one step closer to the trophy.

Round Three saw plenty of thrills and spills, as Premier League clubs playing in Europe entered the competition.

16 games were played overall, with a total of 55 goals scored.

One of the most hotly-anticipated ties on Tuesday sees Arsenal host Leeds United at the Emirates Stadium in one of five all-Premier League ties in Round Four.

Meanwhile, Thomas Tuchel‘s Chelsea host Southampton at Stamford Bridge, as they look to continue their quest towards winning the trophy for the sixth time in their history.

Championship side Queens Park Rangers host League One Sunderland in what is the only all-EFL encounter of Round Four.

The Black Cats do have history in this competition, having reached the final in 1985 and 2014. Lee Johnson’s side are the only team from the third tier still in this season’s Carabao Cup.

One of the headline results from Round Three saw Manchester United defeated by West Ham United at Old Trafford. David Moyes‘s side host the team from the blue side of Manchester – Manchester City – on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Liverpool make the relatively short trip north to take on Championship side Preston North End at Deepdale in the one of Round Four’s most intriguing clashes.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s Tottenham Hotspur travel to Turf Moor to take on Burnley, whilst Brentford face Stoke City – one of three Championship sides left in this season’s Carabao Cup – at the bet365 Stadium.
