We’ve all been there, we go for something that should be straightforward, only to mess it up in painfully embarrassing fashion.
It’s a weird phenomenon, how are minds can seemingly just glitch in a split-second, causing us to do something completely inexplicable.
That was the case for Sri Lanka wicketkeeper, Niroshan Dickwella, as he attempted to celebrate his run out of Joe Root during his side’s test match against England.
Understandably elated at getting the England skipper out, especially after his stunning score of 228 during the first innings, Dickwella attempted a simple high-five with teammate Wanindu Hasaranga.
Only instead of hitting Hasaranga’s hand, he catches him flush in the face.

Despite a rocky start to their second innings, England secured victory in the first test by seven wickets. The second test will get underway on January 22.
Sri Lanka will be hoping to get off to a better start next time round, after being bowled out for just 135 in their first innings ultimately meant they were chasing from the opening day. Root’s masterclass only heaped on the pressure and it always looked like it was England’s test to lose.
