The probable reason Bray Wyatt hasn’t returned to wrestling since WWE release

In July 2021, WWE made the shocking decision to release Bray Wyatt from his contract. And now we know the likely reason behind the call.

Throughout his time in the company, ‘The Fiend’ became one of the most popular wrestlers in the sport. He captivated fans with his mystical aura and sensational performances. In a world of mundane talent, he stood out from the pack. Wyatt (real name Windham Rotunda) changed the mould with an iconic Swamp Match against Braun Strowman and his Firefly Fun House demolition of John Cena.

After winning three world championships, it seemed that the American would go on to cement himself as one of the greatest of all time. But with the creative team seemingly running out of ways to continue his character development, they let him go. However, further detail has come to light as to why Vince McMahon decided that the charismatic star didn’t have a future in the promotion.

Why Bray Wyatt probably got released from The WWE

Since he departed from the company, the powerhouse hasn’t returned to the ring in any organisation. Considering his talent and draw, this doesn’t make much sense. Surely every company would like a slice of the Wyatt pie. However, it looks like there’s another reason he hasn’t moved on.

Several months ago, it seemed inevitable that the wrestler would sign with AEW. But in a peculiar turn of events, all noise quietened down. During a recent Twitter exchange, esteemed journalist, Dave Meltzer, explained why this happened.

He said: “His asking price is very high.”

This could suggest why WWE allowed him to move on in the first place. But despite his absence from the ring, the beloved star might not be done yet.

Bray Wyatt’s father, Mike Rotunda, discusses his son’s future

The Fiend’s dad achieved success in the 1990s as Irwin R. Schyster and passed on his wrestling gift to Wyatt and his other son Bo Dallas. He recently discussed their treatment in the WWE and what the future holds.

Speaking to the Stories with Brisco and Bradshaw podcast (quotes via Wrestling News), Rotunda explained: “Vince [McMahon] I don’t think gave my younger son Taylor a chance because Taylor is a hard worker. He really is. You can’t teach that timing and stuff.

“Windham had a great, great gimmick. He got over because he could talk, and it was a unique situation. So I’m proud of them both.

“They’re definitely not maybe done. I don’t know. They’ve kind of got their foot in and going with a couple of different things, trying to see what’s available.

“So, you know, maybe you’ll see them back. Maybe you won’t. I don’t know yet. But I don’t want to speak for them either because I know they’re trying to reach out and get some different things going.”

The world of wrestling hasn’t been quite the same without Wyatt. But hopefully, fans can gain some solace in his father’s words.
