Triple H opens up on scary extent of his recent health issues

WWE legend Triple H has opened up on the full extent of his recent health issues, confirming his retirement from professional wrestling in the process.

‘The Game’ has been forced to end a 30-year career that has seen him established as one of wrestling’s true greats.

Triple H is a 14-time world champion in WWE, and became only the second male wrestler to complete a Grand Slam.

Some of his greatest matches include his gruelling Hell in a Cell battle with Shawn Michaels in 2004, the two WrestleMania matches against The Undertaker, and his Three Stages of Hell match against Stone Cold Steve Austin in 2001.

His last WrestleMania match was against Batista at WrestleMania 35 in 2019.

The 52-year-old has announced his retirement due to the presence of a defibrillator in his chest. He suffered what was described as a cardiac event last year. In addition, esteemed journalist Dave Meltzer claimed that the event was “very, very, very serious“.

It was subsequently announced that he was expected to make a full recovery.

Triple H reveals extent of his health issues

Speaking for the first time at length about his health problems on Friday, Triple H explained to First Take‘s Stephen A Smith that he was battling viral pneumonia.

He elaborated (quotes via Fightful): “From the viral pneumonia, I had fluid in my lungs, fluid around my heart.

“They followed up on it, did an EKG. Basically, the way your heart pumps out, it’s 55 to 65 percent of your injection fracture is a good number. I was at 30.

“I had a quick text message saying, ‘don’t take time, pack a bag, we’ll head to the emergency room. I’ll fill you in on the way’.

“By the time I got to the emergency room, my ejection fracture had gone down to 22. I was in heart failure. Bad. By the next morning, as they figured that out in the evening, the next morning as I was settling in to get an MRI done and about to go in for a heart cap, my ejection fracture was down to 12.”

He continued: “I was nose-diving and at the one-yard line of where you don’t want to be. For your family and your future, when they tell you it’s 99%, it gets real.”
