Virgil van Dijk claims there’s only one positive during huge rant following Champions League defeat

Virgil van Dijk was absolutely furious after Liverpool’s 2-0 loss to PSG.

With a spot in the final four of the Champions League on the line, ‘The Reds’ will need to produce something special at Anfield following a less than impressive display at Parc Des Princes.

Virgil van Dijk says the only positive is that there’s a second leg

Things quickly went astray for Liverpool tonight in the quarter-final of the biggest tournament in club football, with Desire Doue scoring an absolute thunderbolt of a goal just 11 minutes into the fixture.

Then, to rub salt into the wounds of the fans who’d travelled to the French capital, in the 65th, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia made a mockery of the Premier League side’s defence to double the lead.

Of course, the result certainly isn’t what Virgil van Dijk would’ve wanted, with the Dutchman voicing his discontent during his post-match interview with TNT Sports.

He raged: “Tough work. It’s what was expected. I think we defended with a lot of bodies around the box. Unfortunately, the first goal was a deflection. We had some small moments on the break where we could’ve done better. Obviously, I’m not happy whatsoever. The only positive is that we have another game next week. But now it’s a quick turnaround, and we have Fulham waiting for us as well.”

When asked about how important Giorgi Mamardashvili’s saves may prove to be, the defender added: “Hopefully, very crucial. Now, we are 2-0 down, so we have to produce a special performance next week.”

Van Dijk continued: “We have to be spot on with everything we do, and hopefully our fans can play a big part in that as well. I’ve been to many special evenings at Anfield. I’m lucky and privileged. Our fans are the backbone of the club, and hopefully they can be there for us again.”
