Keen to inflict another dose of punishment on his rival, Luke Littler hit the ground running in the quarter-finals this evening, quickly storming into a 1-0 lead. However, Gian van Veen immediately hit back, equalling the score.

Utilizing his momentum, the Dutchman took the ascendancy, checking out the bullseye to break his foe’s throw, before remaining calm on the next leg to waltz 3-1 ahead.

Then, the underdog really began to pile on the pressure, winning yet another leg to leave Littler on the cusp of an emphatic defeat.

Of course, ‘The Nuke’ wasn’t willing to go down without a fight, claiming two consecutive legs to leave Van Veen’s fans worried that the fairytale was about to collapse in front of their very eyes.

Proving his ability to perform under pressure, the reigning European Championship title-holder made it 5-3.

Knowing he couldn’t afford to make any errors, Littler locked in, pulling it back to 5-5 in a fixture that had every fan in the AO Arena up on their feet.

With the atmosphere through the roof, the pair battled it out in a rollercoaster final leg, in which the World Champion missed double seven for the match, before his opponent failed to hit double 15 to give the best player on the planet another opportunity.

Alas, he couldn’t take it, first missing outside before missing inside to put the ball back in his rival’s court. After failing to hit the double six on his first attempt, the Dutch star finally landed his dart in the requisite target to pull off one of the biggest victories of his career.
