When Fabricio Werdum threw a boomerang at Colby Covington

Colby Covington is one of the greatest trolls in UFC history, but in 2017, Fabricio Werdum made him pay for his words.

The American is one of the best welterweights in MMA. Although he’s yet to claim the elusive gold strap, his performances have earned his place in the history books. He’s used his elite wrestling and insane cardio to dismantle Rafael Dos Anjos and Robbie Lawler. However, it’s his schoolyard bully antics that have gained him most of his notoriety.

The fighter has referred to Jorge Masvidal as a “journeyman“, abused fans and, worst of all, tweeted Star Wars spoilers.

Fabricio Werdum hits Colby Covington with a boomerang

On November 16, 2017, UFC fan favourite Dan Hooker posted a video of an altercation between ‘Chaos’ and former heavyweight titleholder Fabricio Werdum. The pair argued until the situation reached boiling point. The 6ft 4in powerhouse launched a boomerang in the 170-pound fighter’s direction and it caught him perfectly on the neck.

The embarrassing moment clearly annoyed Covington, who made the decision to press charges against the Brazilian.

The following day the NSW Police released a statement.

They said: “A man will face court after he allegedly assaulted a man with a boomerang yesterday. The incident escalated when the 40-year-old man allegedly threw a bag containing the boomerang at the other man, which hit him in the neck. Sydney City Local Area Command officers were later alerted to the incident and commenced investigations.”

Ultimately, Werdum received a fine of $600 after the Downing Centre Local Court charged him with common assault.

Covington is happy to dish it out, but he’s not so happy to take anything back. We’ll have to wait and see whether that attitude will have any relevance when he takes on Jorge Masvidal at UFC 272 on March 5.
