Since its inception in 1992, the Premier League has showcased the best of the best, but only the cream of the crop have made the list of the top 20 all-time top scorers.
Currently, Alan Shearer stands out from the pack as the most clinical finisher to have ever graced England‘s top flight. The Newcastle legend had the physical and mental attributes to perform to the highest possible standard. He knew exactly where the goal was and could find it with his feet and his head. His overall tally of 260 dwarfs the competition. In fact, his nearest rival has, at the time of writing, scored 52 fewer goals than him.
Wayne Rooney currently wears the silver medal around his neck. After arriving on the scene as a 16-year-old superstar at Goodison Park, the striker soon made the switch to Manchester United and carved out a remarkable legacy.
The tenacious and ever entertaining forward always gave it his all, and provided Red Devils fans with many unforgettable memories, including his sensational bicycle kick in the Manchester derby. In addition, he mesmerised supporters with his outrageous finish from behind the halfway line during a game against West Ham.
But while the Champions League winner won’t want anyone to knock him off his perch anytime soon, it’s looking like he won’t have a choice.
Harry Kane rocketing up the Premier League all-time top scorers list
The Tottenham Hotspur forward has proven himself as one of the best strikers in the Premier League.
The 6ft 2in powerhouse possesses unrivalled power and accuracy in his shots. In addition, his desire to win helps him to bag goals into the dying seconds of a game. And at the age of just 29, he’s already scored 188 goals. Consequently, he’s closing in on those ahead of him. Therefore, it seems inevitable that he’ll pass Rooney in the not-too-distant future.
However, we’ll have to wait and see whether he’s capable of catching up with Shearer.
